FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the shipping cut-off for Spring Racing deliveries?
If you want your hat in time for the race day, we advise you to order it at least 10 days before you need it. We send all Australian orders Express Post and track all items posted, but can't guarantee Australia Post's delivery times. If you live in Sydney and want to elect to "Pick-up in Store" when you check out, you can order online and pick-up your item right up to the day before the race day, from 3/762-768 Military Rd, Mosman NSW 2088.
What is the difference between "OUT OF STOCK" and "SOLD OUT"?
SOLD OUT means that's it, we have no more, nada, all gone and we can't get any more back. Or at least not before you need them!
OUT OF STOCK means there is the possibility that we can get more of these in. Not a guarantee, but if you really want one it could be worth contacting us to find out, and put your name on a waiting list should they become available again.
Do you post hats in hat boxes?
Unfortunately not at this time, but we are working on this. Posting hats is a tricky business, every hat is a completely different shape so there's no one size fits all answer. We want to keep postage costs as low as possible and keep being able to offer free shipping on orders over $200, but adding a hat box not only increases the shipping costs substantially, it also massively increases the amount of packaging required which is not good for anyone, your wallet, our wallet and especially not the environment, which we are quite fond of. Rest assured though, we pack your hat with loving care and attention and do our very best to ensure it is safe in transit from us to you. We hopefully will be able to give you the option to add a hatbox to your order soon.
Do hat elastics go under the chin?
Oh the age old question, they look like they should right? Well actually not, they are ingeniously designed to go around the back of your head and under the hair, with the weight of the hair providing the anchor to keep the hat firmly on your head. No need to use the chin! If you find elastics always slip off your head (they suit some head shapes better than others), just use a few bobby pins to hold it in place.
Should I buy my hat first or my dress first for Spring Racing?
It's the age old millinery debate! We say hat, for many reasons but chiefly because hats are rarer beasts than dresses and when you find "the one" that makes your heart sing and your face smile, you need to grab it! But, we understand that most people like to get their dress first, so we've put together a great newsletter outlining why we think you should go hat first, but also with some advice on what you should do if you want to get dress first. We've got you covered either way!
Do I have to wear black and white for Derby Day?
Firstly, there is no "rule" stating you have to wear black and white for Derby Day, so you won't get kicked-off the racecourse if you're aren't in your finest monochrome ensemble. Roughly 80% of ladies will opt for black, white or black and white outfits, so if you want to fit in with the majority then a black and white look is a must. But you could always add a bit of a twist to that - why not black and white with a splash of red or pink or yellow? Or how about black and silver, or white and gold instead?
If you are entering Derby Day Fashions on The Field we would definitely recommend a monochrome palette, but be creative in the ways you can make your outfit standout from the other greyscale entries in the pack!
